Today the sun wouldn’t come out
from behind high walls of clouds
and I reveled in lonely solitude.

Then a tear fell
from a place I could not see.
Tears don’t fall to be caught.
I know this. Yet I caught it
in the warm palm of my hand.

Please forgive me
this indiscretion:
my open palm
instead of open arms.
